Gulls | Iconic part of living near the sea

Moving from London to the East Sussex coast Carole shares her thoughts. Words by Carole

I love gulls which, to me, are an iconic part of living near the sea which was a long time ambition of mine;   I was born in London.   Why live near the sea if you don’t like sea birds?  Surely it’s akin to moving to live in the middle of a forest and saying you don’t like trees!

We have a pair of gulls who regularly visit our garden and, yes, I do feed them regularly, though I know lot of people don’t approve.   I reckon that, as they are here anyway, I might as well ensure they get decent clean food and so hopefully remain healthy, so I buy them tinned dog food.  Well, I spend a fortune on mealworms and stuff for smaller birds!
